Go to the real 3D pics of Mars.
These are not two different shots but are a single displayed twice so as to boost the resolution of the one. Viewing these images with a parallel box viewer or something of that sort will not give the 3D effect as can be seen a the links that follow. See the stereo page of para-az.com for instructions on making a tubular 3D viewer.
Two details you might see are the troughs (radiating ravines) and locations where material may be getting ejected into the air from below the surface. The coloration and tone-density of the material is quite interesting. Sure will be great when a rover with a sniffer makes its way to that area. Anyone know if the rovers are equipped to smell and taste? Here is a wild thought,, Anyone want to bet that it detects methane, the blackened area being biotic sludge of some sort. We'll be on our way to the moon, in force in the spacecraft named SONY2, to build the jumping off point for Mars.
On a bit more serious note.
"Methane concentrations are highest in autumn and tail off dramatically in winter. Levels build up again in spring and climb rapidly during summer, causing the gas to spread across the planet, the researchers found."
