No surprise that the crust cracked and shifted vertically and horizontally. The presence of fluid and air below the crust prior to its initial fracture set up the capability for rapid lateral movement that stopped abruptly when the lubrication had fully escaped through the fracturing crust.
A triggering event has yet to be identified but there are a lot options to consider.
